![]() "DINNER" by Moira BuffiniThis delicious satirical comedy reminds us that "revenge is a dish best served cold." Paige is throwing a dinner party for her husband Lars and four friends to celebrate his latest book -- a pretentious “life-style” guide. She pays the waiter $25,000 cash, and serves a menu of Primordial Soup, Apocalypse of Lobster, and, for dessert, Frozen Waste. She has taken great pains to produce a suitable menu in keeping with her theme and has stage-managed the event with meticulous care. But why has she chosen these particular friends, these peculiar dishes, and who is the mysterious waiter she hired from the Internet? As this strange dinner party unfolds, you -- her extra guests -- will be taken on a roller-coaster ride of darkly comic, but very well mannered, and coldly civilized, revelations. DINNER premiered at the National Theatre in London in 2003, transferred to the West End and was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Comedy.

KEY WEST FRINGE AWARDED GRANT FOR COMMISSIONING PROJECTKey West FRINGE Theatre (Formerly the People’s Theatre) has been awarded a Dogwood Foundation grant in support of the FRINGE’S Key West Characters project. According to Monnie King, Artistic Director, “One-act plays will be commissioned from South Florida playwrights to capture the heroic and colorful people who made Key West the unique place that it is. Playwrights will select people like Marion Stevens, an early supporter of artists; Bum Farto, a larger than life fire chief; Peggy Mills, who contributed to the tropical garden esthetic, Eduardo Gato, a giant among cigar makers and supporter of Cuban culture and prosperity in Key West to name a few. The plays will bring Key West Characters’ stories to life to preserve this rich history and present it to new audiences in an accessible and appealing format – the one act play.” Three plays will be commissioned in 2012 that will be produced as part of the Key West FRINGE 2013 season. Interested playwrights can contact Monnie King at monnieking@hotmail.com for more information. Would you like to help us preserve this history?
